COURSE INFORMATION
Pending Civic Approvals and final Official Measurement The Scotiabank Full Marathon begins at 9:00 am in downtown Halifax on Brunswick Street at the START-FINISH LINE, located near the Halifax Metro Centre and the historic Town Clock located on Citadel Hill.
Starting the race, proceed along Brunswick Street, turn right (west) on Sackville Street, around the base of Citadel Hill by turning right on Bell Road and right again on Ahern Avenue, passing by the new Citadel High School until reaching the corner of Ahern and Cogswell.
• Turn right (east) for two blocks on Cogswell Street.
• Turn left (north) onto Maynard Street. The route will then continue north on Maynard to North Street. Crossing North, Maynard changes its name to Fuller Terrace, continue proceeding on Fuller to Bloomfield.
• Turn right on Bloomfield, go one block and turn left on Isleville, going north to Russell Street.
• Turn right on Russell to Barrington Street, through the Naval Dockyard and then along Hollis Street to the Atlantic SuperStore.
The route continues left (south) around the SuperStore on Barrington Street and right on to Inglis Street continuing to Young Avenue. Turn left (south) on Young to the gatehouse at Point Pleasant Park. Turn left (east) to head back towards the harbour and to start your tour through Point Pleasant Park.Continuing along Sailors Memorial Way, the route passes the waterfront War Memorial and then continues into Arm Road. Proceed North along Arm Road, then turn right on to Serpentine Road. Where Serpentine Road meets Maple Road, proceed straight along Maple Road all the way to Cambridge Road. Turn left on Cambridge running north and you come to Lodge Road. Turn right, passing the fountain, bringing you back to Young Avenue.
Proceeding north on Young Avenue, the route crosses Inglis Street (where the street name changes to South Park Street and proceeds past South Street to University Avenue).
• Bearing left (west) on University, head two blocks to Summer Street.
• Turn right (north) on Summer to Bell Road, passing the hospital district.
• Proceed across Bell, taking Trollope Street (again past the new Citadel High School) to the intersection of Trollope and Cogswell.
• Here the route curves left (through the intersection) to North Park Street.
• Heading north on North Park, the street name changes to Agricola at the corner of Cunard. Proceeding past Cunard (north) on Agricola, the route passes North Street to Russell St.
• Turn right (east) at Russell and then left (north) on to Isleville Street going north past Young Street and on through the historic Hydrostone area to Columbus Place.
• At Columbus Place, turn right (east) over to Novalea Drive.
• Turning right (south) on Novalea proceed past Young Street (where the street name changes for Novalea to Gottingen), Almon Street and North Street where you turn left (east) on Uniacke Street and then right on Brunswick Street for the Split Time at the half way mark near the Town Clock.
Continue past the S/F line (where you get your split time)on Brunswick Street, right (west) on Sackville Street, around the base of Citadel Hill (again) by following Bell Road and Ahern Avenue, passing by the new Citadel High School (again) until reaching the corner of Ahern and Cogswell.
• Turn right (east) for two blocks on Cogswell Street, then turn left (north) onto Maynard Street.
• The route will then continue north on Maynard to North Street.
• Turn right (east) on North and proceed across the Macdonald Bridge.
• On the bridge, you will have an outstanding view of Halifax Harbour, the DND Naval Dockyard, the skylines of downtown Dartmouth, Halifax and the Bedford Basin.
Once in Dartmouth, you will head straight up Nantucket Avenue to School Street and then left on Slayter Street to Woodland Avenue, right (east) on Woodland to a right turn at Mic Mac Boulevard, proceeding behind the Mic Mac Mall area to the Highway 111 overpass. Running under the overpass, you'll enter Shubie Park - a beautiful, wooded parkland near Lake Mic Mac.
You'll exit Shubie Park near Waverley Road and run along Waverley Road to Prince Albert Road, passing both Lake Mic Mac and Lake Banook on your right.
After passing Lake Banook, you'll head up Maple Street, well known as Giv'er Hill, a steep incline of about 500m in length. At the top of Maple, turn left on Thistle Street, right at Slayter and left on School to head back toward the Macdonald Bridge and your return to Halifax.
Once you reach the Halifax side of the bridge, turn left (south) on Brunswick Street and run through one of Halifax's oldest and most historic neighbourhoods, back to the Town Clock area to the FINISH LINE. Approaching the finish line, listen as the race announcer calls out your name. Very cool.
SPECIAL NOTICE FOR FULL MARATHONERS While on the Halifax side, the route will take you into Halifax's historic North End on 3 occasions:
• The first pass through is on Maynard Street.
• The second pass on Agricola Street.
• The third again on Maynard.
• Make certain you cross the timing mats at the Half Way mark for you split time. Runners without a split time are at risk of beginning disqualified.
• Please watch for Route signage and follow Course Marshals' instructions.
