Blue Nose International Marathon overruns Halifax
May 20, 2007, Halifax, NS - Thousands of eager volunteers and spectators watched as runners braved the rainy weather and took to the streets for the 4th annual Blue Nose International Marathon, which started and finished in front of Halifax's historic Armouries on North Park Street.
More than 7,000 runners and walkers took part in the full marathon, the Volkswagen Half Marathon, the Chronicle Herald 10k, the Rogers 5k Run/Walk, and the Head Shoppe YMCA Team Relay on Sunday, May 20 and the Doctors Nova Scotia Youth Run on Saturday, May 19. This represents an increase from last year"s total of 6,300 participants.
"It's great to see people of all running abilities participating in an event that showcases our beautiful city," said Rod McCulloch, Blue Nose co-chair. "The weather doesn't hold anyone back here, everyone had a great time and gave it their all for a great cause."
As much as $50,000 was raised in support of YMCA Strong Kids Program, bringing the four year total to more than $150,000.
Blue Nose co-chair Gerry Walsh was delighted with this year's participation. "It's so inspiring to see so many runners share in the experience of the Blue Nose," said Walsh. "I want to thank all of the organizers, volunteers, spectators and participants who continue making this race a great success."

· Men's: Shawn Brady of Toronto, ON, Time of 1 hour, 13 minutes and 32 seconds
· Women's: Ellen Vessie of Halifax, NS, Time of 1 hour, 27 minutes, and 48 seconds
Chronicle Herald 10K
· Men's: Tyler Germani of Baddeck, NS, Time of 35 minutes and 44 seconds
· Women's: Rosie Mullins of Halifax, NS, Time of 39 minutes and 19 seconds
Rogers 5K
· Men's: Connor Price of Ottawa, ON, Time of 18 minutes and 9 seconds
· Women's: Mandy Morgan of Halifax, NS, Time of 21 minutes and 4 seconds

· Team New Balance of Halifax, NS, (undefeated for four years in a row)
The Blue Nose International Marathon is the people's marathon - with diversity to encourage and challenge participants at all levels, first timers and seasoned marathoners. The Blue Nose International Marathon ran from May 18 - 20, 2007 (Victoria Day Weekend) and the weekend's events included: the Full Marathon, the Volkswagen Half Marathon, the Chronicle Herald 10k, the Rogers Wireless 5k Run/Walk, the Head Shoppe YMCA Team Relay and the Doctors Nova Scotia Youth Run.
