Public Service Announcement: Blue Nose International Marathon Traffic Advisory

May 18, 2007 - On Saturday May 19 and Sunday May 20, Halifax is proud to host the fourth annual Blue Nose International Marathon. As a result of marathon activities during the weekend, traffic along the race routes will be affected.

On Saturday, Halifax Regional Police will manage traffic along Tower Road, Harbourview Dr and Young Ave between 10 a.m. and 11 a.m., as an expected 3,000 youth take part in the Doctors Nova Scotia Youth Run.  Start and Finish area is at Saint Mary's Huskies Stadium

On Sunday, North Park Street between five corners (North Park, Cogswell, Rainnie, Trollope and Ahern) and Cunard Street will be closed to traffic for the day.

The Macdonald Bridge will be closed to traffic between 8 a.m. and 1 p.m. while runners cross the bridge.

Limited access on the Halifax side includes Agricola, North, Brunswick and Sackville Streets, Bell Rd and Ahern Ave and all streets inside this area from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Although other roads will NOT be officially closed, controlled access may still slightly affect normal traffic flow in Halifax and Dartmouth. Traffic along the route will be managed by HRM police as runners and walkers progress through the course.  Please be cautious on all streets along the race route on Sunday.

To make this event a success for all participants and volunteers, the Blue Nose organizers are asking for your help in the following areas:

  • Motorists are asked to please drive carefully and slowly, and follow the instructions of police along the route.
  • Please drive in the opposite direction of the runners/walkers.
  • Please allow for the possibility of extra travel time along the race course
  • Come out and join in the action and cheer on the thousands of runners participating in this year"s marathon - your support helps to keep them going!

Note to Media:  As a result of Sunday shopping, there may be more traffic on the roads during the Blue Nose International Marathon than in previous years.  Your assistance in providing this traffic information to the public is appreciated.
