Halifax, NS, May 9, 2007 - As the big race day approaches, Blue Nose International Marathon organizers are calling out to volunteers to help out again, this year.

The Blue Nose Marathon is the community event of the season.  It relies on the dedication of volunteers, police, municipal staff and a medical support team to make the event run safely and smoothly.

Marathon organizers with a team of over 100 senior volunteers have been planning this year"s marathon for months.  This year, they need over 800 volunteers to help with race operations, program logistics, and registration.

"The marathon is a community event and without volunteers it would not be possible. There's lots to do behind the scenes and at the start/finish lines during race weekend," says Brenda Rowe, Chair of the Volunteer Committee.  "The count down is on and we still need volunteers to sign up and help out.  Particularly, we are looking for energetic individuals to be course marshals."

The Blue Nose Marathon is the people's marathon, organized to encourage and challenge participants at all levels of fitness, and is set for the Victoria Day long weekend, May 18-20, 2007.  Race events include: the Full Marathon, the Volkswagen Half Marathon, the Chronicle Herald 10k, the Rogers Wireless 5k Run/Walk, the Head Shoppe Team Relay and the Doctors Nova Scotia Youth Run.  Additionally, participants and spectators can take in the Come to Life EXPO, Tour Tech Speaker's Corner, YMCA  Strong Kids Village and the Great Big Past Dinner.

"Volunteers provide a friendly and warm welcome to participants. They do everything from passing out water and snacks to providing entertainment along the race course," says Rowe.

Join in on this fun-filled event and be part of something that is truly, life-changing experience not only for marathon participants but also for family, friends, and cheering fans as they line the streets to cheer on participants of all ages.

Interested volunteers must register online at www.bluenosemarathon.com . As an incentive and recognition of the countless hours volunteers dedicate to the marathon, registered volunteers will have a chance to win a Sandals holiday package.  The lucky winner will be announced at the Volunteer Appreciation Reception on Sunday May 20 at the Cunard Centre, Pier 23 from 7 pm to 9 pm.
