PEI Runners Preparing for Blue Nose Marathon
Date: April 3, 2006
Author: Dave Denny
Halifax, NS - With a light-hearted theme, The Thrill of Victory, the Agony of the Feet, runners and walkers from Prince Edward Island are in training for the Blue Nose International Marathon to be held in Halifax on the Victoria Day weekend May 19-May 21, 2006.
Although the word marathon is part of the title - the Blue Nose International Marathon offers a variety of running and walking events for all fitness levels - walkers or runners. There's a full marathon, a half marathon, a 10K run, a Youth run, a 5K walk, as well as a Relay run.
"There really is something for everyone," Rod McCulloch, Blue Nose co-chair. "We think it's an ideal event for the entire family to participate in over the holiday weekend - whatever your fitness level. Even if you don't run or walk, you can still cheer from the sidelines," he said.
For the past two years, the Blue Nose Marathon has grown substantially - and organizers hope the trend continues. Halifax organizers say the number of registrants from PEI has grown since the first year - and it's expected that many more will register closer to the race.
"As international marathons go, Halifax is an easy destination for people travelling from PEI," said Gerry Walsh, Blue Nose co-chair. Halifax is preparing for thousands of visitors for what promises to be an exciting weekend and we welcome our neighbours, especially from Atlantic Canada."
