Blue Nose gears up to get people moving

Date: February 8, 2006

Author: Blue Nose

(Halifax, NS) The "people's marathon" is launching its third year in Halifax! Running buddies all over are getting together to get moving and kick-off training for the third annual Blue Nose International Marathon.

At a launch event at Halifax's Grand Parade, Team Myles was introduced - five individuals and one team who are participating in Blue Nose weekend events and who will be sharing their stories, motivation and inspiration on BlueNosemarathon.com throughout their training process. Each member of Team Myles has their own story - some are first timers and others have been active for years. They reflect the range of people who join in the fun and excitement of Blue Nose weekend, scheduled for May 19 - 21, 2006.

"Everyone's got a buddy - someone who keeps them motivated and gets them off the couch," says Gerry Walsh, Blue Nose co-chair. "This year, Blue Nose Marathon is profiling five individuals and one team who can become running buddies for us all."

Also new this year is the Running Buddy program, designed to offer tips and guidance on building and sustaining an active lifestyle. The first 4,000 registrants who sign up to enter the full or half marathon, 10 km race, 5 km run/walk or the team relay will be able to take part in the program.  The Running Buddy package includes a training schedule for your race, a training log book, an e-newsletter with updates and advice from exercise specialists and the Blue Card which offers discounts for Running Buddy Program participants.

"The Blue Nose weekend has something for everyone," says Rod McCulloch, Blue Nose co-chair. "Participants of all shapes, sizes and ages can walk or run any of our races. Getting fit and keeping active is something you can start any time and have a positive affect on your health."

The Blue Nose International Marathon is also proud to announce its No Sweat Registration Policy - new for 2006. If, prior to May 14, any paid registrant of any event needs to cancel for any reason, that registration will automatically be carried forward to 2007 - no sweat!

Participants can register on-line at BlueNosemarathon.com. There are discounted rates available for early registration. The full event weekend includes the Head Shoppe Team Relay which raises funds for the YMCA, the Rogers Wireless 5 km, the Chronicle Herald 10 km, the Volkswagen Half Marathon, the Full Marathon and the Doctor's Nova Scotia Youth Run. Blue Nose weekend has a full slate of activities including Tour Tech Speaker's Corner, Pharmasave Health and Sports Expo, Great Big Pasta Party, Running Room Friendship Run, Tel AV AVW Post Race Mixer and Awards Ceremony, and Molson Post Race Party.
